In 2009, two white Northwestern students wore blackface for Halloween, a racially insensitive act. In May 2012, racially insensitive remarks were made toward a Latina senior as she walked home from the campus shuttle. In April of 2012, the Northwestern Ski Team hosted a racially insensitive Beer Olympics.

"Racially Insensitive" : a term that many Americans take at face value, but that many international students are forced to question. What is “racially insensitive” in the United States? What makes an act insensitive versus a mere joke? Is joking allowed? Where is the line?
