The World Barista Championships continue to grow in popularity both within the coffee-sphere and beyond. The competition started as a way to allow baristas to compete and show-off their skills. Forbes magazine has released its annual list of the most miserable cities in the U.S.Detroit was this year’s most miserable city, followed by Flint, MI and Rockford as the top three. Chicago ranks NO. 4 in the list and there are three Illinois cities on the top 10 list.

An overview of refugee arrivals in Illinois

Illinois has a long history of refugee resettlement. Since 2000, it has received more than 23,200 refugees from as many as 66 countries. With a slight decrease in refugee arrivals after the September 11th attacks, the number has as a whole been steadily increasing since 2006 with an average of about 2,000 refugees per year in Illinois. With an increase in the diversity of refugees coming to the U.S. and the economic recession has caused more challenges for resettlement agencies and the help they provide to the refugees they welcome. This year, the largest number of refugees in the U.S. and in Illinois will come from Burma, Bhutan and Iraq.
